BABY LOVES DISCO

I won two tickets to Baby Loves Disco in LA this Sat. afternoon. How fun will that be? The Girl and me out on the town, dancing and doing silly things. Who's coming with us? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Thanks to Robert Mahar of the AWESOME site Mahar Drygoods who sponsored the ticket giveaway. If you haven't been to his store...dude, just go and be amazed, AMAZED, I tell you.

MATH GENIUS

The Hubby & I can't do math. That's why we both went into journalism (he editorial, me PR). I have an absolute mental block on my eight and nine times tables. I think I missed that week in 3rd grade. Seriously. Dear departed Sister Columba was a short, stout Irish nun who taught me quite a bit, but failed to add the times tables to my rote memory despite the wooden pointer and vocal repetition. So this is what it's come to I guess...

We are going to have to buy/make these t-shirts for The Girl.

PROOF I MAY SOON BE ABLE TO WALK IN HEELS

Look what's new for summer...

I think I need the Sassari slides in seafoam & white, as well as black & white. Although the celery & white is kinda cute, too.

PUMPKIN SPICE BREAD

It's heavy on the spices and nuts and raisins. If you no likey nuts & raisins, you suk.

VenturaMom’s Pumpkin Spice Bread
3 C sugar
1 C oil
4 eggs, beaten
2 tsp cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
½ tsp ground ginger
2 tsp baking soda
2/3 C water **
2 C pumpkin
3 1/3 C flour
1 C nuts (or more)
1 C raisins (or more)

Mix it all together and place in two greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 60 min or until it isn’t gooey in the middle.

** I updated the recipe because I said you could substitute apple juice for water...IT IS NOT OK. With the second batch, I used apple juice and the whole thing went crazy and dripped all over my oven. Stick with the water. Nice, nice water.

Note: The pink iPod is playing Andy Williams Chrismas music. God bless him. He is the best. And if the comments turn nasty about how Johnny Mathis or some other yahoo is the BEST Christmas singer ever, I will turn off comments and go kick your ass. I don't care where you live. Your ass will be kicked. Andy Williams rocks the yule log like no other.

And the other picture is of a baked mini loaf, ready to be slathered in butter and gobbled up right quick.

LINKS & STUFF

Ventura's own Suebob over at Red Stapler has a great post on being a feminist. Rock on sister.

Amazing video of a guy who puts a new spin on disability.

Check out my Stylehive for cool stuff. I've been on a bender. Lots of bottle openers!

FLOWER POWER

Today is my lazy photo post...
When I had my get-away to Vegas in early October, I spent a day at the Wynn walking around, taking pictures and gambling (mostly gambling). The vibe and the decor at the Wynn are both terrific. It is just a stunning hotel & casino. They have awesome umbrella lights suspended in a two-story atrium. And a two story window with a view of their rock wall waterfall and babbling lake. They have a light show sort of thing too. But the best, best, best part is the repeated patterns of flowers, vines and leaves. They were everywhere from the carpeting, mosaic tile on the floors, ceiling relief, soffets, indoor garden, fake trees with flower balls. Frickin everywhere, frickin beautiful. Go if you have a chance.

GREAT STUFF

Isn't this image just divine? But if this was me, my breasts would be sliding into my armpits. Gravity is good for the most part, though.
The art is by Nikki McClure. You can buy it here.
