SHE'S ENGROSSING

Yesterday The Girl was complaining that her dad was not playing the game Trouble fairly. Then she added, "It's so engrossing." WTF? She's four! So I asked, "Do you know what engrossing means."
"Yes, it's like when you are hearing a really scary story and you get scared and think it's real."
They must be doing something right at her co-op preschool. She's turned into a word nerd just like us! In grade school, she is going to have classmates that think she's a showoff because of her big vocabulary, just like I did! Oh, I'm so proud.

AND I QUOTE...

My dream boyfriend George Clooney is in the new film "Michael Clayton" about a lawyer who cleans up corporate messes at the price of his soul. The director, Tony Gilroy, gave the best quote I've read in ages:
"All these corporations that you talk about, they are all inhabited by people. It is not some other occult superpower that is deciding this," said Gilroy, who also wrote the script. "Every day, they go back and make a small paper cut on their morality."
Amazing imagery...paper cut on their morality.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO THE GIRL

The Girl said all these things in the past couple days. I swear. She is three. I swear.

"If you put something on your lap and it rolls off, that's gravity."

"Do you know what is extinct? Dinosaurs are extinct. Extinct is dead. The dinosaurs are all angels now."

"Listen to that noise, Mom. (Notice humming from a transformer on a power line) It's the beavers! Hurry, get in the car before they get us!"

"Dad, you are a really big dad. And you're old."

"We can't eat a turkey on Thanksgiving. It's not nice to eat animals."

SHE SAID...

The Girl's vocabulary is off the charts. I know she picks up a lot from me (a word sheriff) and The Hubby (editor extraordinaire), but I swear she gets some of these words from the dreaded/exaulted TV. The other day she asked,"Do you know what is extinct Mom? Dinasaurs! Roawaaarrrrr (sound effects)." WTF? I didn't know what extinct was until the third grade. Spectacular is also a new superlative, joining her old standby Amazing. She honestly said, "This dinner is spectacular!" Of course she was lying or on crack because there's no way Von's brand lasagna served with raw baby carrotts and apple sauce is spectacular. Amazing maybe, but definitly not spectacular.

THE RAIN IN SPAIN FALLS MAINLY ON THE PLAIN

Please pass this link along to anyone you know who mispronounces words or phrases. I know you are perfect, but others may need a quick reminder. Unfortunately they left out the proper pronunciation of asterisk - it is a*ster*risk NOT ass-ter-ik. Risk. Risk. Risk. Say it with me...risk. All together now - asterisk. Gawd that one really gets me.
