MY WISH FOR MY TOWN...

I wish there was a really good bakery in Ventura. I want good fluffy cupcakes. I want lots of muffins and a couple flaky croissants. I want sugar cookies that taste good. I want them iced with cute designs. I want Tuesday to be "coconut and cardamom frosting day." I am tired of going into a bakery and seeing pretty things that, when tasted, remind me of rancid paste from kindergarten. One fucking fluffy cupcake. Please, Ventura, please.

You are so, so right. There is Royal Bakery, down by Telephone and Main, where their goods are good, but you have to get a second mortgage to afford a cookie.

What about that Savory Bakery & Cafe downtown? I have never, ever seen it open. Same with that little place under the Oddfellows Hall next to Tipps - when I am around, it isn't open.

Mexican pastries are an acquired taste. Lala's Panaderia is my favorite AND the pan dulces are only 50 cents apiece, so they are at least a bargain. But they are pretty simple, not elaborate frostingy wonderfulness.

I can feel your pain.

I'm pretty sure the place next to Tipp's (Mayan?) is a front for the mob. Or some other organization which requires money laundering. No other explanation. P.S. In my current town, the only bakeries are in grocery stores. So.... yeah.

We did have a slight chance with Anacapa Bread Co. Great breads tho their cookie/pastry selection was limited.

Anyone remember Jamie's Bakery? Gawd - yum. And it was right next door to Continental Deli, which I consider the last great deli in Ventura.

City Bakery was my last fave. Great all around food & goodies.
Sigh...
