LAZY NURSER

Have you heard Lazy Lover by Brazilian Girls? Go. Listen. Then sing the title of the post to that tune. Ha ha ha. Cute, no?

I was over at Joy Unexpected, laughing about Y's Bobs. For the record, no one should feel bad about extended breastfeeding. Lots of women bfeed way beyond their kid's first b-day, but are hesitant to talk about it. Why? Because so many people are fucked up in the head when it comes to the boob. GET OVER IT PEOPLE! On mommies, they are just milk-filled globes. Sure they can look nice in a black turtleneck, but really... they nourish and comfort a child.

I proudly admit I am still nursing The Girl at 2.3 years. The main fact I am still nursing is because it's easy (now, but not so easy at first)! It's cheap! It makes her stop crying immediately! Dude, I whipped out the boobs so often when my dad was in the hospital. Upon editing, that sounded bad and sick. But never fail, the doctor would walk in and start to talk. Then The Girl would start to talk. The boob would come out and everything was better. It also works to fix tantrums, boo-boos, and nightmares. It makes her drift off to sleep as easily as Ambien.

I am a lazy nurser. I never had the preconceived notion that I would be an extended breastfeeder. In fact, I didn't even know there was a word for it before I had The Girl. But I have latched onto (pun intended) the whole concept of attachment parenting and really like it. It gives me, the lazy nurser, a parenting concept that allows laziness and love at the same time. What's not to like?

So hooray to all breastfeeding mommies. Snack on toddlers.

I nursed my first child for a year and then divorced my husband and weaned her because it seemed impractical to continue. In retrospect, this was probably a time when I should've kept breastfeeding! I'm now nursing a second baby, a 7-month old, and don't know when I'll wean. No plan, really. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with continuing on past the age of 2 because frankly I'm a wuss about dirty looks in public, but I certainly have no problem with those who stick it out. In my experience, there are kids who nurse purely to get milk, and there are those who nurse for food, because they're scared, becasue they're hurt, because they want extra mommy-time, etc. I guess I now like the idea of letting the kid decide when to wean.
