VENTURAMOM'S BOOK CLUB

Here are a couple books to read if you have time or the inclination...
Our very first VenturaMom Book Club selection is The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. ROCKIN'!!! It is really a great read. The book follows time traveler, Henry DeTamble (great name, no?) and his non-traveling wife Clare from childhood to old age, moving back and forth between the past and present. Both Henry and Clare are narrators, so we get some scenes from both perspectives. Very interesting and fun read.
Then we have a sweet and poignant book by author Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees. This fast-reading book follows 14-year-old Lily Owens (I loooooove that name, too) who flees from both her abusive father and racism in Georgia, to South Carolina in 1964, following a clue on the back of a picture that belonged to her dead mother. It reads kind of like chick lit with a conscience. Enjoy!

Except didn't you think the ending of Bees was a little too neat? A little too tied-up-with-a-bow?

It could have been waaaay neater/cheesier regarding the gun thing. The ending was sort of like tied up with a twist tie from a loaf of bread, not quite a bow. Or maybe a ziptie. So I still stand by it as a worthy selection for the VenturaMom Book Club.
